故事发生在1945年2月一批被关押在泰国坎博里劳工营里的战俘被日本军方下令长途转移押送回日本本土在运送途中波折不断当地游击队的拦截战俘的逃跑都被无情而残酷地镇压最终这批战俘在越南西贡登上货船巴西丸号由军舰护卫前往日本在海上航行的日日夜夜里战俘们遭受了地狱般的折磨和煎熬由英军少校本福德和澳籍中校亨特率领他们忍无可忍奋起反抗夺下了货船的控制权而此时一艘美军潜艇由于不知内情受上级指令向所有悬挂日本旗帜的船只开火数枚鱼雷击中货船战俘们再一次面临巨大的生死考验

本片根据真实故事改编讲述了1983年12月9日太原十五中学生池越忠在迎泽公园后湖挺身上前搭救两名落水儿童自己却也陷入冰窟随后赶到的迎泽公园绿化队队长王志胜3次潜水救起了这3名学生池越忠因抢救无效不幸遇难这两名被救儿童由于不同的家庭教育不同的人生志向走上了截然不同的人生道路一名长大后报名参军复员后勤恳工作；另一名由于家庭过分溺爱等因素最后参与了黑社会组织堕落为杀人犯被判处死刑……
